Carpal Tunnel is Affecting My Life

Millions of people each year in the United States are diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome, but what exactly is it? It is a pain, numbness, and/or tingling of the thumb, index, middle finger, and the thumb side of the ring finger. The nerve being affected is called the median nerve and it travels through a tunnel in the carpals (wrist bones), hence the name carpal tunnel syndrome. It is most commonly seen around the age of 18 or later and more commonly seen in those working with repetitive wrist movements on computers and those working with vibrational tools that require a strong and steady grip.

There are several conventional ways that carpal tunnel syndrome is treated and maybe the help that you are earnestly searching for.

Ergonomic improvement is one of the easiest ways to approach improving carpal tunnel symptoms by finding the correctly fitting desk, chair, computer and keyboard set up for you. Physical therapy is often done to help with muscular imbalances and wrist flexibility to help reduce the severity of symptoms. Surgical release of the transverse carpal ligament is often used in more long-term and constant and extreme cases to provide alleviation. In some cases, surgical interventional may not even be the answer, and if that was you and you’re reading this, we are here to help you.

The cause will vary depending on a case by case basis, whether it is coming from the wrist directly, the neck, or a combination of the two. What is important and key is prevention and taking care of yourself to stop the issue from beginning, but if it already has, you can help yourself. You are not doomed to suffer with the issues of carpal tunnel syndrome and can find resolution and long-term results.

What we do differently here at The Specific Chiropractic Centers is that we examine the nervous system and determine whether or not a malfunction of your nervous system is the cause of your carpal tunnel syndrome.
