Fibromyalgia Relief: How Can Upper Cervical Chiropractic Help with Fibromyalgia Pain?

Fibromyalgia can be crippling to some and varies from one person to the next. It is described as an invisible illness due to the fact there is no way of knowing someone has fibromyalgia just by looking at them. I am sure you have heard, “You don’t look like you have Fibromyalgia.” Which if you’re reading this and don’t have fibromyalgia, you don’t want to say that to someone with fibromyalgia.

This blog will serve to help you understand how upper cervical chiropractic may be the right fit to help you with your fibromyalgia. Here are 3 reasons how seeing an upper cervical chiropractor for your fibromyalgia may be the answer you have been looking for. Though fibromyalgia is still a misunderstood condition, we will be sharing what can help through our experiences of helping people just like you.

1.)The Nervous System

The nervous system controls and coordinates all functions in the body from your breathing, digestion, and your body telling you whether or not you are experiencing pain. All of that and much more is controlled by your central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) through all of your nerves.

This is often overlooked and not addressed by standard medical and alternative medical protocols. In particular, what is overlooked is the function of the brainstem. All information to and from the brain must pass through the brainstem, which is protected by the upper two most vertebrae the C1 and C2 (Atlas and Axis). The proper biomechanical movement of these two bones influences proper brainstem and nervous system function

Improper biomechanics (motion) of these two bones directly affects the function of the brainstem and central nervous system. Think of telling your brain “blue”, it hearing “red”, and then saying greenback. Information processing and interpretation are affected. What we have seen with our fibromyalgia patients is that they get better and stay better for longer periods of time without having to take expensive amounts of drugs and/or supplements.

2.)Increased Blood Flow

The alignment of the top two bones has been shown to affect blood flow to and from the head and brain. Having more oxygen getting to the brain is needed for optimal function, just as it is crucial for the entire body. But many people live with chronic misalignments in the upper neck affecting blood flow to the brain. Again having better blood flow to the brain will help facilitate a healthier nervous system and giving you a better opportunity to take over fibromyalgia much better.

3.)Better Cerebrospinal Fluid Function

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pumps in and out of your skull into the spinal canal and is also very important for overall nervous system health. Think of when you had a hangover, chances are you dehydrated your CSF and that is why you felt the way you did after too many bottles of wine. This can ultimately lead to intracranial pressure and give you headaches or even migraines. More pressure on the brain will also affect your nervous system in a negative manner and won’t help you with your fibromyalgia symptoms.
